Check passport expiry against the rule for your trip
Compare your passport expiry date with the validity period you enter from an official destination source. No universal six-month rule is assumed.
Answer: this checker compares your passport expiry date with a validity threshold you enter from the destination authority's current instructions. It does not apply a default “six month rule” or look up destination rules.
For a calendar-month buffer, the threshold uses the same day of the month where possible; if that day does not exist in the target month, it uses that month's last day. An expiry date on or after the entered threshold passes this date comparison.
Verify the rule for your exact trip
- Check the destination government's immigration or foreign-affairs instructions for the passport nationality, passport type, purpose, length of stay and planned route you will use.
- Confirm whether the requirement is measured from entry, exit, or another event and whether the rule says days, calendar months, or a specific date. Enter that same basis and interval above.
- Check transit requirements separately and confirm again with the relevant authority and airline close to departure.
If you are also checking a short stay in the Schengen Area, use the Schengen stay calendar to count the dates you enter. It counts days only and does not check passport validity, visa eligibility, or your authorized stay.
The International Air Transport Association's Travel Centre provides passport, visa and health requirement information. IATA also says requirements can change and that local immigration authorities decide admission. Use it as a travel-document cross-check, then follow the destination authority's own current instructions.
Open the IATA Travel Centre and verify the matching government immigration source.

- IATA Travelers' Questions: requirements change, recheck close to departure, and local immigration authorities decide admission (checked 3 Nov 2026).
This tool only checks arithmetic against the rule and dates you supply. The buffer must be entered explicitly as a whole number from 0 to 120, and the source link must use HTTPS. It does not identify the applicable rule, assess nationality or visa exceptions, validate that a source is official, or determine boarding or entry eligibility. Your inputs stay in this browser page.
Check your trip dates with the travel time-zone converter, and budget confirmed trip costs with the trip budget planner.
How it works
Enter your planned entry and exit dates, passport expiry date, the official validity interval and its date basis, plus the source title, URL and date checked. The result compares only those inputs.
Good to know
Does every destination require six months of passport validity?
This tool does not assume that. Enter the validity period and date basis stated by the destination authority for your passport, purpose and trip. Requirements can vary and change.
Does a passing result guarantee boarding or entry?
No. It only compares your expiry date with the threshold you entered. It does not verify the applicable rule, nationality or document exceptions, transit requirements, airline checks, or an immigration decision. Confirm with the destination authority and recheck close to travel.
How are calendar months calculated?
The tool keeps the same day number when possible. If that day does not exist in the target month, it uses that month’s final day. Check the authority’s wording if its definition differs.
