Lodging cost planning
Estimate hotel city tax from the local rule you enter
Estimate a hotel or lodging tax using your entered per-guest nightly amount, room-charge percentage, exemptions and caps. No city rates are assumed.
Answer: estimate hotel or lodging taxes from the rates and caps you enter for your stay. The page does not look up or assume a city tax rate.
Method: fixed amount × non-exempt guest-nights, plus percentage × the taxable room charge you entered × rooms × nights. The per-guest-night cap applies first, then the whole-stay cap. Leave a cap blank when the rule has none. This is only a worksheet: tax bases, exemptions, rounding, caps, collection and applicability vary. Enter only components and cap scopes that match the official rule. Inputs stay in this browser.
Confirm the lodging rule
Local lodging taxes can depend on the municipality, accommodation type or classification and traveler circumstances. Check the official local authority or the property's written breakdown for your exact dates and room arrangement. Confirm who qualifies for an exemption, what amount a percentage applies to, how caps work, whether a platform already collected the charge, and how amounts are rounded.
As one jurisdiction-specific example, France's Service Public says its tourist tax is paid per person per night and varies with accommodation type and classification; it links to a municipality rate lookup. That example is not a rule for other destinations.
Open France's official municipality tourist-tax lookup if it applies to your stay.
Sources and limits
- France Service Public: tourist tax varies by accommodation type and classification; its page was verified 2 June 2021 (checked 3 Nov 2026).
- France Service Public: official municipality tourist-tax rate lookup; page says verified 16 Jan 2024 (checked 3 Nov 2026).
The estimate is based only on the rule and figures you enter. It does not verify that the cited rule is current or applicable, determine legal exemptions, or replace the accommodation invoice. No city rates are built in.
Include a confirmed lodging estimate in the trip budget planner, convert it with a rate you provide in the currency worksheet, or record shared payments in the trip expense splitter.
How it works
Enter the destination and stay details, then copy the fixed charge, percentage base, exemptions, cap scopes and official rule source from the current local authority or property terms. The result is arithmetic from those inputs only.
Good to know
Does this page know the current city tax rate?
No. Enter the rule and figures for your exact stay from a current official local source or written property breakdown.
How are the two tax components calculated?
The fixed component is the entered amount multiplied by non-exempt guest-nights. The percentage component is the entered rate multiplied by the taxable room charge per room per night, rooms and nights.
Can I rely on the estimate as the amount due?
No. Local tax bases, exemptions, caps, rounding and collection vary. Confirm the exact rule and final amount with the local authority and accommodation provider.
